Presentazione - Introduction

This is intended to be a bilingual Blog (Italian and English, although comments in French, Spanish and German are also welcome).
La mia intenzione è di creare un blog bilingue (italiano e inglese, anche se sono bene accetti commenti in framcese o tedesco).
The Blog is named after a most entertaining book, by the same title, published in 1938 by an Italian Diplomat, Daniele Varé, when he was nearing the end of his career, which had taken him to aome veru "exotic" posts, such as China.
I also published a book, which I hope is entertaining, when I was close to the end of my career as an Italian Diplomat. It's title was "Il Manuale del Perfetto Diplomatico", and was èpublished in 1996 by Borla Editore.
The shape of the world after World War Two was different from the Varé years, and so I was abkle to serve in many more "exotic" or "difficult" posts, such as the Congo, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Somalia, but I was also stationed in England, Switzerland and the Netherlands. With multilateral agencies (ECMM and OSCE) I also spent many interesting years (1996 to 2001) in the Balkans (Bosnia, Croatia and Macedonia), and in this period I was also fortunate enogh to meet the lady who would become my wife, Marian.
I was born in Pakistan (British India then) and went to school there, and spent a total of fifteen years of my life in Afghanistan, which I left, with great regret, early this year.
I would like this Blog to cover a variety of subjects, Politics, Culture, History etc.
I tend to have a rather iconoclastic view of reality and would welcome any comments on any subject.
